Nietzsche, Rochefoucauld, Aurelius - who writes books of aphorisms now? No one very successfully. With our patience cut by electronic media, I'm betting on a return of the aphoristic genre. Expect my own book of aphorisms, maxims, epigrams, proverbs, parables and koans, culled from this blog and my private notes, once I'm wiser from Cor and other experiments.

Actually, there are some contemporary aphorists. You must have missed the Philosophy Institute's Aphorism conference in London, March 2008, at Goodenough College. You can learn about it though on jamesgeary.com

Sara, thank you for commenting. Good to see you and others keeping interest in the form. My town's library has Geary's The World in a Phrase: A History of Aphorisms. Too bad you forgot to notify me in advance of the conference, but at least I can watch it at http://fora.tv/2008/03/14/Aphorisms_Personal_Perspectives#Sara_Levine_on_Successful_Aphorisms

Shalom:
Composing aphorisms is a hobby of mine. I even wrote a book on the subject called "No Woman is Allergic to Diamonds". If you can't find it on the Internet, find it under my name, Macabee Dean.
All the best, Macabee

Hello, Patrick. One more contemporary aphorist -not at the above-mentioned conference- popping in to introduce himself. Below, are excerpts from my book of aphorisms, Signposts to Elsewhere. Best of luck with yours.
